How can you go wrong with the P/S filter.

Dave7.3, how much are K&N oil filters? My guess is that the're more than P/S oil filter...what I'm getting at for the price of the K&N, you might be better off changing your oil at earlier intervels[?]

When I bought my first brand new car [1978 Firebird Formula 400TA 4speed] I changed the oil & Filter every 1,000 kilometers [650 miles], I didn't even drive it in the rain and I lived in Vancouver BC ......ahhh those were the days.

The K&N filters I have seen range anywhere from $10-$13. I already change my oil at 3000 mile intervals but the oil comes out black even after only a few miles on a fresh oil change. I am looking for improved filtering to try and get that stuff out, and plus the Marvel's Mystery Oil I plan to add will be breaking up more gunk so, a good filter would be best to catch it.

Thats a little extreme for car care isn't it bc6.9? LOL, what would you do if you drove it to work and it rained?

The anti drainback valve is for filters mounted upside down. Ours are as about as low as they can get and the oil would drain out of the main bearings anyway. Here is a query, how long does it take for your IDI to show oil pressure , mine is about 3 seconds cold. 4 or 5 warm. BTW I run the PS filter, fleetguard or napa.

The pressure relief valve is in the oil filter header from the factory.
It is against the block when the header is installed on the engine.

with the idi, id suggest 3000 miles. with the psd, 5k is fine since they use 16 qts. and in my idi (pre bypass system) i ran 12 qts and kept it a quart over. and thats with the standard idi filter. nothing special.
