4r100 leaking

i have a 2000 f-250 131,000 i recently changed the transmission oil and instead of filling it back with atf i changed it to conocophillips torque fluid 30. this oil i use in my caterpillar equipment that requires TO-4 spec. for the power shift trans. now the front seal has gone to leaking. could the different oil cause the leaking. i really can't see how. Any ideas.

The front seal? Or the front of the pan gasket?

Is that fluid compatible with the seal material? Do you have the specs for the oil and seals? Have you run lifetime tests to determine if they are compatible? Can that oil degrade the seals? You need to have the answers for these questions if you think you know more than the engineers that designed the transmission and specified the oil for it.

The short answer is yes, I think the wrong oil that you put in your transmission caused the leak. While you have the trans out you probably want to do a complete rebuild. Who knows what that fluid has done to the friction material. Does that fluid react with the glue used to hold the friction to the steels? Could it cause the frictions to separate from the steels? It would take the same tests to prove that this fluid is compatible with the frictions.

It sure would be a shame if you pulled the trans, changed the seal, and put it back, only to have the frictions fail from the wrong fluid.

i use this oil in all of my powershift equipment transmissions. now all a automatic tranny is a powershift that changes for you. i use it in cats, john deeres, allisons. they all have "frictions" glued to "steels". they all have seals. i even use it in my
C-6. the 4r100 leaked a little before now its worse

But are the seals and frictions in the 4R100 the same as in the Deeres, Cats, and Allisons? Do you know, or just assuming?

I think the 4R100 is NOT compatible with that fluid, and the wrong fluid is the direct cause of your problems. I could be wrong, but so could you.
