MSD 6 ignition and plug wires question

I just bought the MSD 6AL ignition for install on an '82 (302). I haven't installed it yet because the instructions say that you cannot use 'solid-core' plug wires. I'm not sure if the wires (Autozone OEM replacement wires) are solid core or not...how do I tell? I'd like to install the unit now and upgrade the wires in a month or so.
Any thoughts?
Rob

Get you some Ford Racing 9mm wires from Summit racing for $40 bucks, and you'll be good to go. Don't use cheap *** wires with that box.

MSD 6 ignition and plug wires question

So how do you like the 6a box?

I am thinking about that add on. Did you re-gap you plugs wider?

Can you feel a difference in power, if so, low end or high end acceleration?

MSD 6 ignition and plug wires question

I've had it on for a few days now and there is a difference. The Bronco (180k miles, 25k of it on a rebuild) accelerates smoother in the high and low end and seems to have more high end power. The real test will be next weekend when I hook up my trailer (22' Carson Toyhauler) and see how the engine does under pretty heavy load. I hooked up the box and wires at the same time, so I'm not sure if which of the 2 are the bigger 'bang for buck'. I haven't regapped the plugs yet, although I think I will before next weekend - I'll let you know. I am using the white wire trigger - I hear the mag pickup is better, but I don't think my distributor has that. The only thing that is a bummer is that everyone had posted that it's easier to start with the MSD and it seems harder to start when cold and no difference than before when warm. Pretty easy to install too.

I gapped mine at 61 and turned up the timing. It's a screamer now. 89 with 302.
