6637

I bought a 2003 F350 last fall, and thanks to this forum I have learned quite a bit about them over the past few months. Thanks much to all you guys, lots of good info here. This spring I plan to get a DP Tuner, so I'm going to do the intake, exhaust and gauges first to get ready for it. A lot of good intakes to choose from, but it's hard for me to argue with the 6637, so I'm going that route intake-wise.

My question is - I've seen some people say they bolt the filter right up, some say they need a couple inches of 3 or 4 " PVC straight or on a 45 degree angle. I remember seeing something stating it depended on the year, but I can't find that thread now. Anyone know what you need to put one on a 2003 with a 7.3? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Your '03 is probably exactly like my '02. I just did mine about a month ago, and have pics of my install in my gallery.

I tried the straight connection to the stock flex tube, and got it on. i even clamped it hard to make sure it wouldn't come off. However, it DID come off. I already had a 6" long piece of 4" exhaust pipe to do the CCV mod, and just cut off a 3.5" section from it to use for the transition. The fit with the exhaust transition fit so tight into the opening of the 6637 that I simply stayed with what I call a "shove-hard" fit that is extremely tight... hasn't come loose since. Then I just clamped the flex intake back onto the 4" exhaust "nipple" that was left sticking out of the filter housing.

PVC... if you can get the exhaust pipe, it is best because of the thin wall; and, you can't crush it with the clamps.

45° bend - I'm going to purchase another piece of 4" exhaust with a 45° bend in it to replace the flex intake tube once I do the CCV mod. The smoooth insides will also provide a better intake air flow than the stock flex tube. Unless you're going to do the same thing, you won't need a 45° bend for anything.

"Fit" under the hood - I had to nestle the end of my 6637 at a slight inclined angle because I didn't want to cut off the two plastic "fingers" that jutted out from the bottom of the battery tray... just in case I want to put the stock box back in some day (like if I wanted to move the 6637 from the truck I'm selling to the one I'm buying). This inlcine, I believe, is why my filter came loose from the flex intake tube to begin with. Regardless, unles I tilted it like you can see in my pictures, the hood would not close.

Hope this helps.
