me and dubz got the d70u swapped into the bronco last night relatively easily.
but, as usual, I have some problems..
the driveshaft u joint appears to be smaller than the pinion joint, so I guess I just need a new pinion flange? or can I upgrade the driveshaft side somehow?
and, apparently my brake lines were really dirty on the bronco so when I tried to tighten the hardline back up to the 70's line it just snapped off, anyone have an idea of how to fix this? Do I need a completely new line?
other than, i have a bronco that moves under its own power again!
I have the same issue with my 77 F-150. I could not find a u-joint that would work with my stock driveshaft and the 70 yoke, so I am going to get a different yoke from a late 70's Dana 60 I have. To fix the brakes, just replace the rusty lines with some pre cut lines from Napa. The have the ends on them already. You might need to bend them to fit thou.
Yeah, I did a little searching around over on broncograveyard and it looks like they have all the brake lines in stock preformed and all, I'll probably go that route.
I saw some different pinion yokes somewhere online, but I can't remember where. hmm, I'll have to do some more searching for that, how do I know which size I'm looking for though?
calipers. measure the cup size, and the length from cup tip to tip. do this for the D70 yolk, and for the driveshaft. then just get a joint that corresponds to the two sizes. it's kinda hard to explain, but if you have an intelligent parts man, he will know what you are trying to do. an off road/speed shop may be a better place to get the u joint though.
Your local parts house should have a spicer book with these bast@rd (thats what I've learned to call them) joints listed in it. just keep the numbers on hand with the truck for future repairs.
now I just have to get myself outside and measure the joint and stop web-wrenching (i think thats a new term?! haha)
do I need any special tools to remove the pinion yoke on the 70u?
Looks like a 1310 series joint, sounds right for the stock 9inch? I think I'll measure again in the morning before I order, college has fried my brain for today.

the d70 is a1350 the 9 is a 1310 get a driveline outa a 350 and have shortened 75 bucks at six states w/ balance and while there pick up the transfercase yoke for 205 in 1350 series and your rear drivtrain will be bulitt proof. Oh yeah the yoke runs about another 60 bucks here.
You dont have to change the yoke, just get one 3 1/4 and the other side is 3 1/2 i cant rember the part#and i dont have any empty boxes around. but its a common joint
thanks for the help guys, after searching around on google some more I came up with some part numbers for the 1310/1350 joint, it helps when you know what you're looking for!
PCN-348 is the summit part # if anyone else is looking for one!
