1991 F250 7.3 4x4 just went to change engine oil and when it came out it is gray like battle ship gray. i dont know what to think if anyone can give me some idea about what they think is going on plz comment. thank you. i will not be doin anything with the truck until i hear back from someone thanks again
Only thing I can think of that would make your oil battleship-gray (rather than soot-black) is if you've got water in the oil. Is it still runny and somewhat see-through (opaque) like regular oil or is it thicker and more like paint? If it is thicker and more paint-like then I'd bet it is a case of water mixed in with the oil and the two liquids whipped together into an emulsion by the crank.
I've seen this happen before to a much more extreme degree. The worst case I've ever seen about half the water from the cooling system was leaked into the crankcase of the engine over about 30-60 minutes of around-town driving. The crank whipped the oil and water together until the crankcase was filled with what looked like filthy dirty gray mayonnaise.....
