help some one please asap i am installing my new injectors and when i removed all of the passenger side there is no copper washer?? i had one injector that was completly dry and the others was wet and carbon on them? i have blowed air in the holes and all i see in there is shinny metal not copper color. so if there is a washer there how do you get out? i am lost right now and have to get the truck back together before morning have to goto work???
Were there no copper washers on any injector on that side? To get mine out, I used a scribe that had a hook on one end. Perhaps you could bend a thick metal wire like a coat hanger. Make the hook small and tight, then see if you can catch the edge of the hole in the washer (assuming it's there). But if you're not seeing a distinct copper color, your washers may be missing.
Are they stuck on the end of the injector? The wet and carbon is a pretty good indication that they were missing.
I'm not sure, but you could probably put it back together without the washers if you're only going to run it for a day. I would pull it apart again on Saturday and get new washers in there, though.
I think the coat hanger is your best bet. If you've cleaned all the carbon out of the hole and the washer's not in there, you should be able to see the machine markings in the casting.
When the engine block is manufactured, a milling machine bores out the injector cavities. Since this isn't a friction surface, the machine markings (usually very fine ring shapes and perfectly symmetrical) are visible in the bore and don't wear away. So if you can see these marks, the washer isn't there because these washers are stamped and have no machine markings.

well i did see some rings on there? i thought it my be like a brake line washer. but if there stamped flat then there is no washer. i have tried to call dave but can not get an answer. so i am lost i have never worked on a diesel before
Have you cleaned out all of the carbon in the bore? If so, you'll be able to see the washer because it has a smaller diameter than the bore. The outside edge of the washer will be clearly visible.
So if that's the case, you can probably start putting it back together.
no there is no line i ran the wire down in the hole and slowly pulled it out and it did not catch a ridge or any thing, the hole feels smooth. i wonder if this is why i had a nosie injector in the motor??
The copper washer is going to be where you can see it, either on the injector or sitting on top of the head where it seals.. if you can not see it then its not there its not going to get into the cylinder..its too big to go through the hole
If you had lots of carbon most likely there were no washers........ Hope you did not drop too much carbon in the injector tip hole. Try to rotate the engine with crank bolt before starting to ensure you do not have too much carbon in the cylinder. Hydrolock will bend a rod and carbon can do the same...... injector torque 35 ftlbs x2.
Could you measure the depth of the hole one on the right side and one on the left side and compare. That should say if a washer is there are not. Just an idea, but have not attempted it.
