stock turbo-quick spool

I need the best combination of parts to get a stock 2000 turbo to spool as fast as it can. Is the WW a good option? I'm waste gating this turbo to somewhere around 22-25 PSI. Will the stock wheel work fine for that? I just need quick boost. Either way the waste gate will be set below the surge point. And as far as I know the stock turbine housing is the fastest correct?

Ohh, i smell Compounds... Yes the stock turbo, with a stock compressor wheel and ATS housing will be surge-free and flow a safe 25psi. .84 is the smallest housing you can get, and it is stock. Update me on the progress.

If you want a surge free turbo that can handle more boost, get a drop in TN unit with the .84 housing. That one spools even better than the stocker, and you don't have to worry about surge. Just a thought. And for compounds, that would be a bad @$$ quick spool turbo to have.

Remember my name here. Compounds? Are we talking PSD lingo for something along the lines of nitrous and/or methanol?

Compounding turbos? Dual turbo set up? Is that what you are saying Chris?

Compound turbos. Basically a smaller turbo and a larger turbo in series.

The benefit is that you can run a very large turbo that's found on the 500+ hp trucks, but with the smaller turbo, have boost down low to make the truck streetable.

The drawback is that it's expensive and requires some custom fab work. Also it's a tight fit, so some folks have ditched the A/C to make room for the 2nd turbo.

UHHH, I live in Phoenix AZ. It hits about 120 degrees abot 150 days of the year here. I will keep the A/C and keep the Turbonetics.

It really is a great set-up though going with a compound.

Here's a link to Long Island Performance for their price.
https://www.shop.lidiesel.com/displa...categoryId=153

The TNs are typically a few hundred dollars cheaper than the BB turbos. They are very similar in peformance and flow. The TN's do come with a one year/no questions asked warranty. Quite a few people run them and swear by them.

The TN's come with a 1.0 wastegated turbine housing. However the .84 wastegated housing is new and only a few people are running it. It seems that it can handle 30 lbs of boost without a problem on the .84 housing. I know it can handle more, but I'm not sure how much further than that you can go, but it's an improvement over the stocker for sure.

MY turbo hits about 30lbs in the 80 econo tune when I really mash it. The sucker pulls strong thru the mid range

Is that a Turbonetics? which turbine housing is it? Hows the temperature? What is your setup? And last but not least. . . how does it spool up off the line compared to your stocker?

I like the Turbonetics units. From what I've heard, they work quite well. Brian, at Black Widow Diesel has sold quite a few of these, and his customer service is excellent. Heck, we spent a good hour on the phone last week just shooting the ****. Very down to earth guy who just wants to take care of his customers. He reminds me of another very well liked Brian (BTS).

If you want compounds, give it a little time. A few people are working on a system that will allow you to keep all your stock stuff like A/C. I think they will be priced pretty reasonably too, considering it's two turbos.

compounds

I already got a setup that will keep my stock components like AC. It requires a little more work but it will be a totally streetable truck. I just need to rebuild my stocker. . . soup up my H2 and we'll be good. Once its all done if I am happy with the performance. . . I'll upgrade the stocker to the Turbonetics.

The quickest and easiest way for quick spool is fuel. More fuel=quicker spool, higher boost #'s. I believe if you talk to Jody about it, he can reburn some of his programs with more fuel down low for fast spool up
