Sorry bud...but when I see the same old automotive myths recycled over and over I immediately smell troll.

Well... one way to look at it is that a crate V10 can't cost that much (the crate 6L was $6k or $8k, last I heard someone talk about it). As for the rest of the truck --- I don't see the frame rotting through any time soon --- so it's just a matter of sourcing replacement parts... and most of the parts are made by 3rd parties and widely available. Since we can't buy new ones (without having a coachbuilder go at a 350), it may be easier to just keep these things on the road. Heck... I'm expecting resale values to go up a bit soon .

As for the crack about diesels lasting longer solely because they turn slower, it may be true that diesels downshift at different points than the V10, but last I checked, other than programmging, we have the same drivetrain. V10's can choose a 4.33 rear end, but a V10 with a 3.73 should turn over (lifetime wise) within a few percent of the number of times a diesel should turn over (ie: + or - the shift points).

The difference in longevity, IMHO, is that diesels are built by a truck company (international) that errs on the side of longevity vs. the V10's built by FORD --- whose engineering goal is to give the 1st owner a good experience (repair wise) and most 1st owners don't go over 100k.

If you plan on keeping your Excursion for a long time, you might as well start stocking up on parts right now. I was watching the disvoery channel a couple of months ago. It was a car show. These people on it started there own business. The owners loved this certain model porsche and porsche discountinued it. So they started restoring them and they sold them to porsche enthusiasts. They acutally make pretty good money. Someone should do that with ex's
