Freshly rebuilt 302. Pretty much new everything. Cant seem to get any oil preasure at the sender unit beside the oil filter. There is preasure however at the filter itself. Intermediet shaft is definetly hooked up. Any suggestions??????????????
have you tried a manuel gauge yet if so youve got a leak somewere probablyup top check for oil though. if not might just be a bad sending unit not uncomon.

I have tried a manual gauge. Still nothing. Its a clear tube for the manual gauge and there is no oil in it. I have even tried bumping the engine over with nothing in the block at all and no oil came out. We did have a leak at the back of the intake manifold but its fixed. Please correct me if im wrong, but shouldnt the preasure show before since the switch is right beside the filter. I have pulled the distributor and there is oil on it. As well if the valve covers are removed there is oil on the head. To me it looks as if its getting oil but the valve train is too noisey for this to be correct. Someone told me that the oil pump is very close ratio geared. It is a new oil pump, but if this is the problem then it is a major main to change. So I dont want to have to do it unless absolutly necasary. I would appreciate any more information that you might have. Thank you
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Oct-02 AT 07:04 AM (EST)]Only way I know for sure to tell if it is the pump is to pull the dist. put a socket (the matches the pump shaft) on a long extension use a drill and turn the pump over you might leave the pressure switch out first to see if oil comes out there, if nothing at first give it a few minutes to prime the pump. BE SURE TO TAPE ALL PIECES OF SOCKETS TOGETHER SO NOTHING FALLS DOWN IN THE ENGINE. If you still have no oil pumping then I would probably say it was the pump or where the pick-up mounts to the pump might be lose and causing a leak there both are a major bummer to fix though. Only thing I can think of, Hope this helps and Good Luck,

Are you sure the distributor is sitting all the way on the oil pump shaft? Is the shaft engaged in the pump?Did you replace the shaft, there are two different sizes. If you go to autozone you can rent a tool to hook up to a drill and prime the pump.Make sure you get the smaller of the two tools. You will need a good drill.Pull a valve cover and leave the sending unit off, check for oil at both places. It is remotely posssible that gasket sealer(If to much was used somewere)or something could have the oil screen plugged. If you run the drill to prime the pump it should really load up and almost bog down if the pump is working properly.
