I've got a 2000 explorer limited edition and the fan controls for the heater are acting wacko. The fan will only work on full blast or not at all. Both the fan control wheel at the dash and the fan control button on the stering wheel have the same result. All or nothing. Is there some sort of varaic/relay on the blower motor that might have gone out. I guess I might have to buy a Chiltons manual for the wiring diagram. Any got any ideas on what it could be?
I wanted to bump this up to the top because my Mom has a 2000 Mountaineer that is doing the exact same thing with the blower motor. Has anyone had to fix this before, and know what the cause is??
the blower motor resistor in the plenum has gone bad.
could you tell me exactly where that is located, how hard it is to get to, and how much the part costs? I have looked for a Haynes or Chilton manual for the truck and have yet to see one at my local parts store.
Just got done fixing the exact problem on my daughter's 2000 MM. Most likely is the blower fan controller. This is similar to the blower resister, except if you have the automatic temp controls (ETAC) you have a controller.
It is located next to the blower motor on the plenum. Look just inboard on below the blower. It's kind of a pain to change out. The part cost about $80 from Ford. There is a test that can be done to troubleshoot the blower system. I'm away from home right now, when I get home tonight I'll try to find it, and post it.
OK, Here is the link that I used to test the system, and it led me to replace the blower motor control. I had some trouble locating it again as it's been a couple weeks since I searched for it.
Thanks for the info B2! My climate controll would only work on high and nothing lower.
It did this for about a week and starting working again. It has worked for the last 4 months. Go figure. I'm cutting and pasting all this in a word doc. for future use if it freaks out again.
