i have a 04 6.0 and the head gaskets are leeking there is coolent comeing out of the over flow bottel and it whishels, and i lose heat if i am pulling over 20psi of boost for a long time mainly like up a big hill my question is all i have done is a superchip scanner on it witch i only pull about 30-35 psi of boost would putting the aftermarket head gaskets and studs be enough or would i have to have the heads fire ringed i am a tec myself so the head gaskets wouldent be all that bad.
You know, the more I read and hear, the more I think the stock studs are plenty adaquate. I think IH is having machining problems, as well as fastner torquing issues on the assembly line. I have discussed this in great length with Matt and that is what I am coming up with is as much as .003-.005" warpage on heads and up to .002" on the block deck. With as high as the BMEP and PFP are on an 18:1 cr engine (plus add in a sticking turbo that is over boosting) those are just unacceptable tolerances, even in stock configuration. .002" should be max out of flat with the type of gasket currently being used. .004" would be acceptable if an annelaed copper gasket is used as a counter bored fire ring.
I agree with what your saying mrxlh about IH and problems. When you are replacing the head gaskets...pitch the OEM bolts in the trash where they belong.
