That's just the POR-15 at that point. The chassis black is more of a flat paint. I suppose under the hood you could just leave the por-15 since it won't see regular sunlight. They say the por-15 will stick to rusty metal as long as it's clean. I hit the frame with a wire wheel on the 4-1/2" grinder, then used the marine clean and metal prep before painting. Read and follow the prep/painting instructions.
Right on! It sound like a little bit of work, but I am up for it if it makes my chassis, or the interior of my engine compartment look like that. Question....Where do I get
POR-15 at, any local stores? Where should I look for that marine clean at?
So let me get this right....
1st step: Wire wheel.
2nd step: Marine clean.
3rd step: Paint the POR-15 on the frame. Am I right?
Thanks
Motorhead26: I wire wheeled off the loose rust. POR-15 says you don't have to get it down to bare metal and that it will bond to the rust better than bare metal. Then marine clean to remove dirt, grease, etc. If you have bare metal you use the metal prep which puts a zinc phosphate coating on it for the POR-15 to bond to. Then the POR-15.
Thanks Gustang818, I will look into that and see what i can do to order a few so I can get to it. I need something on my truck to stand out a little bit and it would be nice to get started on my frame so that i can be done with it. Am I able to apply it onto my undercariage with a brush? That would be cool. Thanks agaon for the site.
Thinned and sprayed huh? Does that take away from the adhesion of the POR-15? Just curious, because of my resources I'll probably have to brush it on just like you did. So after that picture did you paint the frame and firewall and all? If you did do you have a picture or any progress pictures? I'll check out that Por-15 stuff.
Hey Gustang818...that picture you posted; was that the chasis coat black POR-15, or the blackcote...glossy black coating? I want to buy the right one!!!
Never mind, I checked out or first part of the convo, and you said it was Chasis Black. I am going to order some before I start to put things BACK together. I am thinking about just using a cutter and hook it up to my compressor and just cut the rusy old crap out. might save me some time and elbow work that is not necessary if they are not going to be used. The ones in the support I have used penetrating oil and a air wrench to try and kick them loose, and nothing! I guess my next option is to cut thim out and get that cor support replaced. than I can get my truck back together. I have to loosen all the rest that connect the frame to the cab and the bed and put the new poly bushings I got in and then my 3" spacers from my lift kit. It comes with all brand new bolts and there is no reason to hold on to the old rusty ones. What do you all think? Let me know if you guys have some pointers to give me.

Reason: mis-spelling
The POR-15 is the glossy stuff and the chassis black is kind of a flat color.
I used the fire wrench to get those core support bolts out. They were really in there. #s 1-7 in this picture should give you some idea of what you're dealing with:
Gustang818: What the heck is a fire wrench? Sorry but I've never heard of it. I think I am going to cut those rusted bolts out. I also like the fact that you also check out the LMC Trcuk website. I am always looking at that website. I ordered my polyeurathane bushings from there, and have looked at that particular picture about 4 times already. Question for you though Gustang, and I ask because maybe you, or anyone else may know. In that picture there are 6 bushings. I on the other hand have 13 spacers for my body lift???? Why so many, and is there more that they do not show in the picture?
Well, to give you guys an idea of where I am working at, I have no garage, I have enough ventalation, I have some money, and I appreciate all your help with safety too, i really do. It matters and people do disregard the simple steps to making sure that they are safe before they use hazardous materials. Just take it from me I;ve seen my share of idiots. Thanks again for the heads up though, i have already checked out the MSDS's on POR-15. It is way more cheaper than rust bullet, and it seems to get good reviews.
a fire wrench is an oxy-acetylene cutting torch.
sometimes it is also called a bluetip wrench due to the fact when the tip of the flame is blue, it is ready for business.
I don't know why there are 13 unless one is a spare or they accidentally sent you an extra. There should be an upper and lower bushing for each of the radiator core and cab mounting points. That adds up to 12.
I'm not too worried about the bushings, just about where all these body lift spacers are supposed to go. Honestly, someone who knows what they are talking about and could give me an extra hand would help. Hey bro if your willing to make a night of it sometime in the soon future let me know, and I'll get the dinner, you bring a fire wrench if you have one or know someone who does and maybe I can get this done sooner than I had planned. It is turning into a long drawn out project and I started it sometime the middle of last month. Let me know if your interested. I really could use the help, and I'm willing to give a helping hand in return.
