old Chevy tire question
My friend has an '86 K-10, lifted 4" with the body all done real nice. He wants to get it registered and inspected, and Maine has some of the dumbest laws I've ever heard of when it comes to tires on trucks. He can run a tire 2" larger diameter than the biggest tire that Chevy put on a half-ton truck between '73-'87 (the years that style was built, I guess).
We've found that the standard, stock tire on the truck would have been 235/75-15, a rinky-dink little 29" that would only allow him to legally go up to 31," which would look pretty stupid under a lifted full-size. We figure somewhere in those years, some option package must have included a bigger tire (probably 31s), but we can't find any proof. Anybody know for sure, and ideally have a link to a brochure or something that shows it so he can get a sticker and get this truck on the road.
Thanks!
