I have a 390 out of a 1973 3/4 ton 2wd truck..and im looking to put it into my 1979 3/4 ton 4wd truck...now i know ill need the oil pan, bellhousing, flywheel, and the motor mounts i was just wondering if the motor mounts out of the 2wd can be used in my truck or if i have to find them out of a 4wd with the FE engine.....thanks in advance...
I did that swap this summer to my 79' 150 4x4. Had a I-6 in it and i used those motor mounts and it bolted up just fine to the 390. The mounts will sit two inches back from where they were. Can't use the Fe motor mounts. What motor is in the 79' now.
ok thanks for the info...ill be scavenging the junkyards...anyways how reliable is your truck i mean stupid things dont happen everytime you wanna go somewhere
I had the starter go the first week i had it. (it was the Original). The thermostat went out to this winter. The engine starts everytime.other than those two little setbacks i drove it to work everyday in summer (20 min drive). I bought a pointless conversion kit so no more points. I have the 4-speed NP435 and i have not had any problems with shifting or the linkage. The only other thing that i remember wa that you need to find a oil filter that is shorter than most of the standard one. It will hit the inner fender.other than that is a straight forward swap.
