Engine question

Haven't been here in awhile...so first, a hello to everyone again!

now, the question.

Can the front engine cover come off without removing the valve covers?
I am working on a side job...we have a Mustang that the replacement motor was shipped with a F150 front cover. We have yet to fully assemble the front of the engine, and we will be swapping this cover out when we receive the new one.

It looks as though we may be able to leave the valve covers in place, but obviously remove the two front valve cover bolts? Any input on this?

Thanks!!

i wpuld be worryed that you might nick a seal doing it this way.if you are careful you can take the v covers off and not tear the valve cover gaskets.this is just the way i would do it.

The cam cover must at the very least have all of the bolts removed or backed almost all of the way out so the timing cover can be tilted forward to disengage the front dowels on the block's face. Since you're going that far-you may as well go ahead and remove the cam covers so you can make sure the gaskets aren't damaged, and you can seal them properly when you're done.

Thanks for the replies. I failed to mention this was a 4.6, but I'm guessing you figured that out.

Thanks for the info on the cam covers...I was hoping to be able to sneak the entire front cover out from under them. Looks like we'll need to remove them.

Thanks again!
