Question Found a used cam

I found a used hydralic compcams camshaft, lifters, and pushrods on ebay and am interested because it is the cam I am wanting to put in my 302, plus with the lifters and pushrods I would be getting this deal could save about 100 bucks or so but.... my question is, since the cam was used (around 3000 miles) would it be alright to just put this right into my engine...or would I have to worry about wear that happened while the cam was in his engine for that time? would I have to get new lifters since it is a hydralic cam?

This is generally not recommended because each lifter and cam lobe wear-in as a set, and there's no guarantee you'll get the same pairs together in another motor. There will also be slight differences in geometry from block to block to cams will wear differently. This can work though if you follow the breakin proceedure as if you have a new cam.

also depending on the machine work done to the block the pushrods may not be the right length... id go see if i could borrow/rent a checking pushrod and double-check for proper pushrod length. what year is the 302?

if it would have been a newer block (1985 or newer) it would be hydraulic roller ready, and id recommend going with one of those because rollers dont need break-in... but since its an older block its not worth retrofitting... so when you get your cam, check for lobe wear, and if everything checks out fine, throw a new set of lifters on and break it in like a new cam
