I just ordered a Airaid quickfit cold air intake for my 06 4.0 sohc. I an hoping to get a nice throaty intake sound out of it, and some noticable power would be nice. Has anyone ever had any expierience with this intake, if so share your thoughts.
Wendell just had a post on this...it's brand new as far as I know.
Most intakes won't make much power alone (you'll think there is...but there's not), but they'll give you a nice sound boost under throttle, and combined with an exhaust and chip, there's good power potential there.
Yeah, it just came out. I like the fact that it uses the bottom section of your stock airbox for added filter protection along with heat sheilds that seal to the bottom of the hood. Your the guineypig, make sure you report back and tell us how it works and your impressions of the install and so fourth, maybe even pitures if you can. I want one as well, but it doesent fit an 04, it seems to be the oddball year.
yeah wendell has been on this, he was talking about this last week, i need to get my tax returns ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE POST ABOUT INSTALATION AND SOUND PERFORMANCE.ETC........
Ebay, I also heard that a 96 can be made to fit a 95, but thats the 4.0. Not many companies making them for the 4 cylinder, k&n does, you may get thier kit to fit. Also ebay sells the maf adapter to put a cone filter about any ranger, except 04 of course. Go to ebay, use key words "ford ranger intake" and see what pops up.
I got it installed today, took about 30 minutes. It was a very easy intstall, first drive really wasn't too much special. Its not loud, not much louder than stock. I am pretty sure it didnt add any power, but its a nice kit and should give my motor some more air.
Whenever you install a mod like this, reset your computer before the test drive, the computer will learn faster the parameters of the new mod, in this case increased airflow. Do this by pulling your negitive battery cable off for 20 minutes or so. They claim 6 hp, thats not so easy to feel if indeed it does, but coupled with some other changes like a catback or bama tunner, udp, it starts adding up and makes a difference in the driving experience. It looks like a good system and safe, hows the quality of airaid? I've never used thier stuff, but have heard good things, it looks like a well made solid unit.
