Well I was underneath my 59 f100 today trying to find out with the speedo didin't work. I noticed an extra mount on the tail shaft of the tranny towards the front that was not mounted to anything. After pulling the speedo cable I realize tha the cable has the wrong gear on it. Looks like someone swapped to a passenger car tranny or something.
Can anyone help identify this thing, I got these numbers off it
Those numbers don't help as they are the individual part numbers for those two parts.
For identification, need the transmission code from the VIN plate located on inside of glovebox door.
Note, if transmission is not original, look on side of case near levers for a case number (7000, 7005, 7006) or there is/was a metal tag attached somewhere on transmission.

If I understand his post, he's saying the numbers on the side cover are AB7222B. This is the same trans I posted an "ID this" on about 2 months ago, and was determined to be from a '49-'51 337 Lincoln w/OD. Obviously his doesn't have an OD, though. Right?
Yes and no...AB side cover was used thru the 1960's, and the tailshaft fits Ford 3 speeds at least 1949/53...and maybe later. The trans is from prolly 1954 and later, because it's hooked to a OHV V8 aka Y Block.
Your trans was a O/D, I recall you saying something to the effect..."it looked like it was from 337 engine, but when did a 337 use O/D?"
1949/51 Lincolns used the 337..and not only with Overdrive, which came standard, but also had Hydramatic as an option.

Actually, I thought it was from a Y-block, but the numbers came up as 49-51 Lincoln. Y-block makes more sense.
Hard to get a pic, it's still in the truck, not a lot of room under there.
I looked for any more #'s and found nothing. The 55x on the trans appears to be on a plate that is attacked to the bottom of the trans case, revitted maybe. There is another such plate on the tali shaft housing with 55Z on it.
I looked this thing over top to bottom, and can find no other #'s anywhere.
I'm at work, I will post the code tomorrow, I knew I forgot something....I think it was something like 18H , I think that was in the trans spot, its kinda stamped off center there was an A 01 in the axle location
a flat mount off the tail shaft housing, 2 holes about 4-5 inches apart. passenger car huh?
the trucks just mount at the bell housing with the motor right, that the only mount that hooked up on mine, dose that sound right or should it be mounted some where other than just the bell housing?
the trans works good, except for the fact it jumps out of 2nd when slowing down. You know what would cause that. Should I just find the correct truck trans or keep this one. I really just want to fix the speedo so I know how fast im going

Passenger car. I should have read your original post more throughly. Unused bracket where trans mount fits...passenger car for sure. Your trans mounts sound about right, I'll look further later.
Speedo is no problem. Need rear end ratio and tire size. The driven gears are still available, but they aren't the plastic ones, unless that trans is 1960's. What came out, all plastic or steel shaft with fibre like teeth?
Your transmission needs: Gasket set, small parts kit (snap rings, etc) front and rear seals, rear tailshaft bushing, and 2 brass syncro blocking rings, and three shoes. That'll fix the popping out of gear. The teeth are worn down on the blocker rings, that's the problem. Very common.

the one that was on the cable was all plastic, held on the cable with a c clip. It seemed like it was too small and not engaging the gear in the trans. the cable is good and the speedo still works if spun by hand.
The fix you mention for the trans, is this something I can doin my home garage with common tools? I've never done any trans work.
