I put a Flowmaster 40 Series on my Staight 6, sounded pretty good when you step on the gas. Then, I cut my rear cat, I am no saying do this, but I did it anyway. Allot more rumble. I am planning to cut my first cat and gut it out, I was told my motor can't breath because of the cats. I don't care what everyone thinks about cutting the cats, it's my truck not theirs...
As far as the Flowmaster goes, I can notice a difference in speed at mid-high rpm and torque. Just do what you want to do on your truck don't let people dictate you.
