Just picked up a 1978 f150 supercab 4x4 off the internet over the weekend. My question is it is a 5 lug but has leaf spring front suspension.New to me.I thought all the 150's had coil spring suspension. I am no ford expert as I dabble in all makes so i figured I would come here and get educated from you guys.I assume it is 1978 as title registration and inspection supports this .Drivers door vin plate says 1976 so I am trying to figure out what I got. Any help would be appreciated.

Somone will correct me if I am wrong, but Ford never offered a 1/2 ton leaf sprung truck (maybe back in the fifties?). You may have some type of home made conversion. It's possible to install a leaf sprung dana 44 from a F250, and swap the hubs out to the 5 lug 1/2 ton type?
That is what i thought too.I am gonna put in my lift tomorrow and investigate further. When i bought it seller claimed it to be a "rare heavy half ton" but I figured they just added leafs to rear.Looks to be factory parts.Could be a conversion I suppose.Looks like a good job if it is.I tried to decode vin on this site and it was not recognized as a valid vin...Not sure what it is.

Correct!
1978-79 F150 4X4
Super Cab 4X4's have leafs
Regular Cab 4X4's have coils.

Yeah That is what I figured too.Someone swapped the door but not vin.I believe it is a 78.It has 351 M and 4 speed.I think 76 ran a 360.Like I said I am no expert .The leaf spring front is what has me baffled.
FYI all SuperCab 4x4's have leaf springs and the same frames. F-150's & F-250's. If you wanted you could easily swap 3/4 ton axles under it to get better brakes and more load capacity.
That is what I have heard. It is not for me.I am a parts broker and am shipping it to Holland. It is a pretty nice truck.I buy old cars and trucks and ship overseas.Pretty good money in it.I will load it down with parts and it will be gone in a month.
