Hello all,my first post,I have a 2000 F350 crew, srw. 7.3L diesel,Live in new england, plug in when 20 or colder, buy my fuel local dealer, winterized. My problem is fuel spillage from the fuel filter drain tube when driving,NOT ALL THE TIME,3 times in 45,50 days,ck.all basics,2nd new filter, drain valve seems ok,filter housing clean as a babys butt! Local Ford Techs,no idea.HELP! The drain valve act as a relief valve?
Sounds like your o-rings may be giving out on the drain valve, which wouldn't be odd given the vintage of your truck. The valve isn't supposed to act like a relief valve at all, just there to drain water out of bowl or drain fuel before changing the filter.
We have had a ration of fuel drain valve failures lately.
There are two little o-rings in the yellow valve that seem to be going bad, either as a result of age, or maybe the new ultra-low sulpher fuel formulation.
The o-rings are easily and cheaply replaced if you want to do it yourself, or you can get "bent over" and have Ford do it for you. Depends on how handy, or weathly, you are.
Welcome to FTE. How do you know it has only done it 3 times? If it is coming from the drain vavle and the valve is in a closed posistion, then your o-rings are leaking and need to be replaced. I would suspect that it has leaked more and just not noticed. The drain valve is not susposed to be a relief valve when o-rings are working correctly.

I can not believe your Ford Tech did not know how to fix your problem.. What would be their answer to a Major problem? Better stay clear of that dealership.. Good luck with your o rings. I need to do the same. Mine is starting to leak lately.. I bet it is the new Fuel..
