I am sure all of you have went through dealing with the drum brakes in these bumpsides. Have you found the best resource for parts? I assume you can get most of the needed parts from the local NAPA or Autozone, but I wanted to see where you guys had the most luck getting everything needed to restore the brakes.
Carquest and Napa both carry the best selection of parts locally. You can also check out rockauto.com They seem to carry everything as well and sometimes a little cheaper. I am not impressed with the quality of Autozone parts. I've had to replace their parts more then any other parts chain.
vote for Napa...they have access to all the parts you need. Believe it or not, the second line (tru stop) is equivilant to most places first line product. Only thing you might have to do is get them to let you look in the catalog & make sure you order what you need.
I replaced a rear drum when replacing shoes and cylinders on a 68 CS, drum was thru a local parts store that handles CarQuest. With CarQuest low on my quality list I ended up with a made in USA drum in quality matching the 68 original drum. Balanced perfect also as tested on the motorcycle wheel balancer which detects a plastic valve cap.
Wheel cylinders from Napa I question as no name on part and the box from Mexico.
i purchased all my parts at oreily's wont even go into autozon unless nobody else has a part then only in a desperate need case. have had nothing but bad parts wrong parts and lousy parts people at autozone.
My local Carquest knows me well and won't sell me any of the low budget stuff. They have access to the U.S. parts. Stray FAR away from any Chinese parts.
Kacy, Welcome to the 67-72 forum, the nations truck stop.
Most of us here prefer the brake kit from a 73/79. It is a direct bolt hole swap, and if done right can cost very little in money. You will need to buy a donor truck and swap the parts over, either by moving the sheet metal over or the suspension under.
I know NAPA has all the parts for your truck (except the rubber brake lines for a 4X4 and no one has them) - I manage a NAPA and own a 69 4X4 and everything on it has been purchased from my store.
