I have a 2001 2wd F150 with around 95000 mi. I just took it into the shop to recieve service on codes for number 1 and 2 banks running lean.
They ran the smoke test to find the vacuum leak. The mechanic said that the leak was comming from the intake but looked it up and ford does not call for replacing a certain gasket. Reading in this forum I have learned that this motor may need lower gasket at 150000 but mechanic is replacing the middle gasket now, should I have rplaced the lower gasket? If the middle gasket cures it will I still have problems to look forward to in the future?
hi, the smoke test probably points to a gap in the upper intake gasket and if it was my call i would replace just that one but keep a good watch on the coolant level, which is lightly to show as the first sign as any further problems.
good luck bokker.
actually the middle intake gasket was what was replaced, the upper did not show seepage and he checked the coolant and oil for possible leaks pointing to the lower, but came up ok. So what in the world do these engines have such a problem with intake gaskets? from other forums any one of them could go when the motor sees higher mileage.
