OK I bought my Excursion last spring and now I need tires. It has "E" rated firestone ST's on it now.
I pull an 8-10K toyhauler a couple times a month so I'm staying with "E" but really have NO CLUE what brand or type of tire to get.
Anyone have any review sites that could help me out?!
Welcome, what size? 2wd/4wd? I now have pro-comp All Terrains on, they are E and have a 50k warranty, I am real happy with them, had Nitto Terra Graplers, was to soft, were gone in about 28k, Wrangler MTrs' were great, 48k out of them, although they are noisy on the highway. We tow a 10k Ragen toyhauler also, and I have to say I really like the Pro-comps, check out tirerack.com, or 4wheelparts.com
Get BFG All Terrains. Ive never heard anyone have a problem with them. I have them for 2wd and it made a world of difference. I can acutally take the truck off the road with out worrying about getting stuck!
I have had them before on my X along with Kelly Safari SUV's, never again. They did more slipping in 2wd than anything I have ever owned. Whenever I encountered snow or mud I HAD to switch to 4wd or I'd get stuck. Now, I had new tires put on last summer, Toyo Open Country A/T's, they are the cat's behind! Not once did I have to engage 4wd to plow last winter, not once. I can drive through almost anything with these tires and they grip very well, 10x better then the BFG's IMO. They are quiet and a comfortable driving tire, they wear well too. Mine still look brand new and they have 20000+ on them.
They do slip alot in the snow though, i love them off roading thought. not trying to hyjack your thread GraveLayer, but Downriver thunder, you can plow in 2wd? Dang, how does she do in 2wd while plowing? Where you doing a drive way or a lot? Ive always thought about getting one to do drive ways but not lots. People tell me to sell the thing and get 4wd. just really dont wnat to sell it.
I am also in the market for new tires (2004 4wd). On my previous Expedition I had a set of Bridgestone Revo's. Those tires were great, quiet and no problems in snow or mud. Is there anyone with any experience with Revo's on an Excursion?

Yes, I plowed in 2wd last year, only one plow day this year and I already had my hubs locked from driving in to work so I left them locked. It did remarkably well plowing our lot in 2wd. However, when I had the plow installed, it dropped the front end by quite a few inches. I had a front airbag kit installed to compensate. It even raised the front end, deflated, enough that I had to do a rear bag kit too just so the rear wasn't lower than the rear. Here's a pic of our lot, I circled the areas I plow. They don't look big but when you get 6 inches of snow on the ground, it takes a smart mind to figure out what to do with it.

I was originally going to go with Revos on my rig but the local Belle Tire had them on back order for another month and I needed tires right then. They gave me a sweet deal on the Toyo's and even bumped me up a size at no extra charge. The Toyos were amazingly cheaper then the Revos, by $250 total. I never tried the Revos but I will stick with the Toyo's until they do me bad.
Downriver thunder, what size are those toyo a/ts? how much did you pay for them and did they make a big diff over the bfg a/t? I posted you privately about the plow (i dont want to steal the topic of this thread)
I would have to go out and look but I think they were 285/75r16's and the price was just under $700 but that included nitrogen filling, tire warranty, alignment and replacement of a tie rod. The tires in my pic are the old Kelly Safari SUV's.
i'm running 285 revo's for over 30k now, i pull a 30 ft tt -9800 lbs--but they are d-range, they do come in e but only 265's--i'm lovin em and will most certainly replace with same when they are done!!!

I have the Revos on my X and I love them ! I went with 285's and it really fills out the fender nice. There is a picture with the Revos on in my gallery.
