I have a 77 4x4 crew cab with a broken header. Anyone ever seen the inside frame headers on these trucks? Unless I'm crazy it looks like I'll have to pull the engine mount to get this silly thing out! Anyone ever have any luck welding up the cracks in these? I figure if I drill the ends of the crack and weld it back up it'll be fine. Any ideas?

Just a stop drill to relieve tension and a small weld should cure the problem. The cause of the problem is that the headers are so dang heavy and all that weight hanging out there can't help but shake, rattle and crack going down the road.... Is there a possiblity of adding some sort of flexible support to the ends of the headers that would support some of the weight and still allow for engine movement on the rubber mounts?????

I should have specified. I weld them with a tig welder. As long as the tube is clean and not some rusted out thing that belongs in the recycle bin it can be fixed. Stop drilling will usually stop the crack from continuing. I've built a few sets of headers, and modified old headers to fit a specific application. If it's a solid tube and it's prepped and welded correctly it will work.
