Transfer case swap question.

I have a '75 F100 with a c6 and NP203. I'm wanting to swap in a NP205 Transfer case. I was told it would bolt right up, and I shouldnt have any problems with this swap, is this true? If not, what sort of problems will I run into?

When I did the swap on my 1975 F100 (converted F150), I swapped in a transmission (NP 435) and transfer case (NP 205) off a 1978 Bronco. Modification of the drivelines are needed.

You can use the old bell housing.

You need a 205 adapter that goes inbetween the t case and tranny that's the same length as the one from the 203, auto hubs, new driveshafts or lengthen and shorten the ones you have, the 205 shifter and linkage.
I have a gallery you can take a look at to get a good idea:

I find it weird you never mentioned what engine you have.

390.

Thanks guys.

EDIT: Do you guys think its worth it to convert? My 203 is working fine, im just having issues with the linkage. I have a 205 laying around and I thought they were better so I figured I would just convert now. Im sure with a little tweaking I can get my 203 linkage working.

Wasn't the 205 a refinement to the 203 ?

Thanks for the link!

I have a complete 79 f150 that im taking the 205 out of. Is there anything that I will need for this swap that I cant get off of the 150? Its complete with driveshafts, and the same tranny as my 100.

What are the wheel bases of the 75 and the 79?
Check the speed-o-meter cables, might need the one off the 79.
Check the cross members, the one off the 79 might work better.

What size of box does each truck have. Short box would be a short wheel base. A long box would be a long wheel base.

Oh,sorry. I thought you meant actual length. My 75 is a long bed, and the 79 is a short.

I sure the 79 will have the bigger u-joints.

I was hoping the 75 would be a short wheel base and the 79 would of been a long wheel base. Then the drive shaft off the 79 could have been shortened to fit the 75.

Check the rear axle tags on both trucks. The 79 might have limited slip. Make sure the gear ratio match.

I'm guessing the 79 has an automatic transmission?

Yea, it has a built c6 like my 75. The 79 might have a limited, Ill check once it stops raining. But my 75 is built, and both axles are locked.

If my memory serves me right, I'm sure the yoke width on the NP 205 is wider, When it time to lengthen the drivelines, check the width of the u-joints on the yoke on the NP 205 to NP 203.

Here the swap taken from MBBFords gallery
https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=88589&width=0
https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=88588&width=0,
it list all the parts needed for the swap.

I guess the question now, is:
Will the intermediate housing between the transmission and transfer case off the 79 fit on the 75?
