I noticed recently that my motor, no matter how long it's been running or what temperature it is outside, never really warms up. On the coolant temp gauge, the arrow never even gets into the "normal" portion of the gauge, it's always low. Is this common, is it bad, or does it not even matter?
my truck does the same thing, the guy at my local 4x4 speed shop says its normal and his truck is identical to mine but a blue interior instead of red. so i just took his word for it.
I was thinking the same thing. But it does warm up pretty quickly, which tells me the thermostat is in fact starting closed; the temp just never gets into the 'normal' region. I should probably just pull it out and take a look at it. Mine is also a 97, f-250 straight drive 4x4. I doubt it's something to be concerned about, I just thought it was odd and figured I'd see if any of ya'll had the same thing goin on.
One thing to remember, the stock gauges on our truck are not much more than idiot lights with a needle. All of the sensor input for the gauges is sent to the PCM which interprets it and then decides what signal to send to the gauge. To get an accurate reading you need to install after market direct input gauges.
