Hello everybody, I have a problem with my 93 full size bronco, it has a 302 in it, I keep on looseing antifreeze, I had my mechanic do a pressure test and he could not find any leaks, the engine check light keeps coming on, when I check the coolant reservoir it is near empty, anybody had this problem before.
Thanks
No external leaks? I hate to ask but what about INternal. If you aren't losing it outside the engine is it leaking inside? Check your oil for grey slimy streaks or sludge. If you discover any at all, chances are you are dealing with a head gasket failure. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if there are no signs of leakage on the outside of the system, thats the next place to check. Be aware that the grey sludge I'm referring to will be heavier than the oil and usually be the last thing to drip out if there is any in the pan.
How much coolant are you losing? Most Broncos lose fluid out of the cap on the coolant recovery tank. It's not a lot at one time, and it dries and you don't see it unless you pop the hood after driving. Over time it makes the level go down. I fixed this by putting some aluminum foil under the coolant recovery tank cap.
Mine used to have a real problem with losing coolant, to the point of almost having none. I replaced the thermostat (the one it had was 180, the new one is 195) and the rad cap, and it hasn't lost any since.
