2001 explorer sport HELP!!!
I have a 2001 explorer sport and I keep getting the dreaded po171 and po174 . I have narrowed it down to the intake gaskets. My question is how many engines are there I have 4.0 sohc but the all the pictures of that engine are not the same as mine not even close. I order a gasket set but I pretty sure it is not the correct one, it has two pieces for the upper intake and six o rings for the lower. My intake looks to have or need six square gaskets for the upper intake. I have not taken it apart yet but that is what I can see. Does anyone relate to what I am exprienceing or have the engine that I have.

Yes I am sure it is a 4.0 sohc, the build date for mine is 7/21/2001... at the dealer today they said that my truck was not eligible for the recall on the intake gaskets... I did not go into too much detail with them, but they lead me to believe that sometime during the 2001 build year they changed the intake design for the better, and that is the one that I have... Does this sound familar to anyone? My engine looks just like the one in a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport trac.... But mine is a 2001 explorer 2 door sport.
