[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Nov-02 AT 00:36 AM (EST)]Hey Guys,
I went camping 2 weeks ago pulling a trailer with my 302. I had about 1000 lbs all together on the trailer and another 1000lbs of people and camping gear in the truck. I know the truck is supposed to lose power, but when going up hills that are about a mile long, the truck would basically lose its power. I mean I was cruising at 70 and by the time I reached to peak of the hill I was at 45mph with the gas pedal down. Not to the floor but close.
This bothered me alot. I thought I can tow up to 6000 lbs with my truck. This made me think of getting the Kenne Bell Supercharger, but I can't see spending $3400 on it. Then I thought about what I read as far as possible trans failure with a supercharger. Shoot, spending that much and having to worry about other parts breaking isn't my thing.
I ordered the Jet Performance Chip, filter, and low pressure temp gauge, put on the 3" cat back Flowmaster. I didn't get the headers yet, but want to know if any of you had any luck with the chip and any other advice to get more power without supercharger price.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Nov-02 AT 07:13 AM (EST)]Hey just how loud is your flowmaster cat back? I wanna put one on but i dont want it too loud. Idle sound is what i'm really concerned about i need something not too much louder than stock. Oh and off subject i went with the venom 400 controller retails for about 300 bucks and god what a huge azz difference in power. I gained a lot of low end and some qutie a bit of top end too. It took about 2 hours to install but it was worth it. Just make sure you turn it off while trying to pass emissions!!!!! i failed twice in a row cuz it was left on.
AT first the Exhaust was so loud it mad eme ask myself, did I do the right thing?
I work for an aftermarker BMW/Audi racing company and we make our own exhausts. So this flowmaster was louder than anything we or our competitors make.
But after 1000 miles, it simmered down and now is Great. Personally, I should have gone with the 2 1/4 inch pipes to make it a tad quiter, and the muffler shop had to make a custom "S" pipe to fit onto the Cat and 3" pipe. Install with parts and welding and install cost another $180, but was well worth it. While watching them, (I am mechanically inclined) it would have taken me forever and it wouldn't have been as clean.
With your venom 400 is that basically the same as the jet chip, but you can turn it on/off at will?
The Venon does the same thing as pushing the gas pedal further down the pedal more sensitive. They took down the older dyno charts they had listed on their sites after it starting getting pointed out that their 40% throttle dyno chart was the same as a stock 60% throttle dyno!! And full throttle results are completely unchanged. At least the Jet does tune at WOT, but off all the chips out there its probably the worst. Did you get the standard money back guarantee?
wow thats pretty crazy. i have never had a problem with my 400 controller. and i do have more power "barely" but it made a difference. I should take it down to the dyno and see whats up with it. Well i guess dont go with a venom 400 then, jet is a good company my dad has a chip in his 01 Z06 and with just that and a full exhaust system along with a different intake the car is dropping 11.90's with just street tires and he's never had a problem, infact its his daily driver car.
If you go to flowmaster web page it lets you listen to some of there mufflers and describes the sound and performance of every series muffler they have. They have a guide that tells you what each muffler is the best for. Sounds to me likeyou need the 70 series.
I bought the 40 Series Flowmaster. I was told it was the best for Fords and it is IMOH. And if you want it to be a little louder than stock, the stick with the same size pipes.
