I have a 1994 Ford Bronco (302, Auto). The air bag light on the dash board blinks 2-3-2-3-2-3..(or 3-2-3-2-3..ect) intermititly. I would like the answer sent to me via e-mail n3yyl(No Email Addresses In Posts!) Thanks!
yo,
first, isn't the air bag sys in our broncos warranted for 10 years?.....my warranty manual is under 6 inches of snow now, soooooo.
and that code is the "clock spring".under the str wheel..which if not under warranty can be replaced for about $120 or less @ the dealer..or by you..but you need the good ford manual by helms and have to be careful..
somone once posted a detailed procedure on how to safely do this...but you must know that you have to take care
good luck and have a great year!
Ok i am wondering is this a major issue I.E. will the truck run properly or will the airbag explode in my face or even work at all?? In other words is it important or just irritating??????
The airbag will not work if the clock spring is bad. The clock spring provides the connection from the computer to the airbag itself. It's like a blown fuse, but a pain to replace.
Even if you have the open circuit error code, it still might work properly in an accident. Key word is might. The monitor circuit tests the continuity to the detonator only at startup. If it doesn't see continuity, it sends the code in a latched pattern. So even if continuity comes back by turning the steering wheel a bit, the monitor keeps flashing the code. The monitor does not have anything to do with actually triggering the airbag, it just monitors the capability, and again, that's only on start up. Mine flashes when I haven't used the truck for a while, then one or two restarts later, it stays dark. I assume the slider oxidizes some when it sits unused. Maybe I'll change it, someday.
