I have a '54 Ford F-350. I rebuilt the motor last summer and found that the original carb has a leak in it. I have an edelbrock 4 barrel just sitting around and an 4 barrel intake off a 292 that looks like it would fit. I was just wondering if anyone knows if the 239 could handle that big of a carb?
I have a 239 I am working on right now and from my research, I believe the manifold was slightly changed after 1954 when Ford went to the 272's and 292's. So, IMO, no the manifold won't work. The change is very slight and to the eye you can't tell a difference, but the manifold just won't fit. If you have the time, give it a try and report back. I would really like to know what the difference is.
I had an offy intake with 3 2's on my 239 before I knew any better. My engine builder installed it. It worked for a year and a half before it started leaking at an intake port. A lot of backfiring was my warning sign. Dennis
