1970 - 240 inline 6

can anyone direct me to a web site or exploded view for use in replacing the timing gear: I have plenty of info on V-8's: nothing on Inline 6's: Parts house says the timing gear is a gear to gear arrangement - no timiming chain: Orginal arrangement utilized steel, and nylon gear: any comments on use of nylon/steel for replacement -- or upgrade to steel/steel combo?

Steel to steel will last longer than the nylon to steel type, which was not only an economy move but reduced noise. Some cam gears were also fiber.

Only the teeth are nylon, the rest of the gear is steel. The fiber gears have a hard plastic (bakelite in the old days) center.

The nylon/fiber gears are notorious for not lasting very long.

How I was able to attain my pickup. The fiber gear had broke in half. I think we paid $200 for the pickup. I also had a blown up front differenctial, for some reason someone had the foresight to run different ratios front to rear. Doesn't work when the snow melts while your at work and you left it in 4x. Oh well, made a good deal for me.

Go with the steel gears.
