I have had two ford trucks, 2004 & 2005 F-250's, both the exact same except for the years. I had the 6.0, My question is on my 2004 the "bed plate" started to leak, I had it repaired & to make a long story short the truck ended up being a buy back due to a long instance of oil leaks. I was given a new 2005. Well at about 17,000 miles the bed plate started to leak on this one. The service manager at the dealer said I should just trade it in , and that I was going to have a lot more problems in the future, such as; He said that I would have to have the turbo replaced some time in the future if I hadn't had it done yet. I decided to not have the bed plate repaired.(the dealer didn't have the engine hoist? or engine holder needed to remove it) I ended up traiding it in & got a new car for my wife. My question is has Ford repaired this bed plate issue on the new 08's? I want to buy one, but don't want to if this bed plate is still an issue.
I Am Not A Mechanic, My O5 Is Getting The Bed Plate Now, The Mechanic Told Me At Ford That The 6.4 Is The Same Engine Block As The 6.0. Im Sure It Is Too Early To Tell About The 6.4.
When properly diagnosed and repaired, a bedplate leak should not redevelop. Repeat bedplate leaks are usually due to warpage of the block or bedplate, and in that case the engine needs to be replaced. Only 0.006" warpage is allowed over the entire length of the unit, and that's not very much. Over half the 6.0s I have worked on with bedplate leaks left the shop with new engines.
But what about the question of the 6.4 being the SAME block as the 6.0, I was of the undersatnding that the 6.4 was an entirely NEW motor, ground up period????
