I have a 1992 Bronco Eddie Bauer with a 351, auto od tranny, it's got about 150,000 km. Lately I've noticed that it seems to idle high.. around 1500 rpm whether the engine is hot or cold. At the same time as it started to idle fast, it started to shift funny. (that's about as technical as I can get about the shifting) I guess I have two questions. Is it possible the two problems are related? And what should I be checking to figure out idle problem? Help anybody?
It's entirely possible that they're related since the Electronic Fuel Injection and the transmission are BOTH controlled by the Electronic Engine Control (EEC-IV) Powertrain Control Module (PCM), aka "the computer". Get a Haynes manual and pull the codes. All you need is a paperclip & a notepad.
