How much boost / Exhaust noise
Curious to know how much boost a factory 1999 7.3L engine will run. Does anyone know?
Secondly, it was recommended that I yank the muffler and leave the cat on this truck (straight through cat style). Has anyone done this? I'm wondering if the added DB will be offensive for long highway trips?

Early 99 or late 99 can make a difference. Early 99 will peak at around 16 pounds of boost, while a late 99 can peak a bit higher in some cases.
More than likely if you have a cat, you have an early 99. The cat and muffler are both huge restrictions in the exhaust, but you have to deal with federal law when attempting to remove the cat. If you do, be prepared for fines if you get caught. As far as noise, most exhaust mods you won't hear inside the cab. There are certain exhaust systems that can give you a drone, but it's more prone in 5" systems.
