My brother lived in Toronto, Canada in the '70s and when visiting him I remember seeing a lot of Mercury trucks up there then. I think they were either made there or were exported to there. The truck you saw may have come from Canada.

they only sold in canada- not 100% sure where they were made though. the last mercury trucks were produced for the '68 model year.

1946 - 1968 as I understand were the production years for the MERCURY Trucks.
They were a Canadian Truck built in Canada.

Wow, it is amazing what you learn on this site. I never knew Mercury made trucks too. Makes sense though, if Plymouth can make trucks, and GMC/Chevy can make trucks I guess Ford and Mercury can do it. Now comes the big question, why only in Canada?

Because.

We used to have "Fargo" trucks as well built by Chrysler.

Plymouth first offered trucks in the mid 1930's to 1942. They were essentially Dodges with restyled grilles.

Nash built a tow truck for their dealers only in 1948. They look almost identical to the new Chevrolet "Advanced Design" trucks of 1948. All the sheet metal on the Nashes is special, and was not from their cars.

Hudson also offered a pickup from 1941 to 1947. The front seat was so wide, 4 people could sit on it. The seat, however could not be moved forward or backward.

Pontiac offered a Sedan Delivery from 1949 thru 1952. It had the Pontiac L head 6 or 8, front clip, dash panel and taillights, the rest was Chevrolet.

Wow Mil1ion, that link brings back memorys! I grew up in Moses Lake Wa, and every summer my dad would take the family to Canada for a vacation. I saw a lot of Merc trucks and at the time I thought it was strange that all of those Ford trucks had some one paint Mercury on the tail gate. The picture of the '56 looks just like I remember them.

I remember the Plymouth Trail Duster (aka Dodge Ramcharger), and the Plymouth Voyager vans (windowed only, no panel vans) of the late '70s, but did not know they made them as far back as 1930. did not know about the Pontiac sedan delivery though, nor the Nash trucks, or Hudson.

Fargos made by Chrysler eh? Did not know that either, and I was a Mopar fan for over 30 years.
