Thanks in advance,
Hi im new to the forum and to actual ownership of a PS, heres her stats...
2002 Powerstroke 7.3 Crew Cab Shortbox XLT 90.000 miles on stock motor
6inch Superlift, leaf front, block rear
35x12.5 on 16.5s
As in the title i need to soak up all the new knowledge from anyone who has time to give me any. I will search for topics as i have time but for starters, some questions and yes u can laugh if u like im happy to learn. My background, im a gearhead new to diesel ownership , journeyman electrician and proficient with all things mechanical. For starters can anyone point me?
New airfilter or intake?
Brand Chevron or Citgo or type of fuel additives?
Oil and how often?
Brakes?
Tuners?
Lift tips?
I have also thought of taking it to the dealer for a maintenence wrench check, i dont think the truck has had much at all done to it aside from oil changes. Is there anything specific to request a check on?
And one pressing issue with i believe the lift kit. Im on 6 in blocks in the rear and i have a slight LUG on initial start from a stop??? And a little driveline vibration when i put my foot in it which i think is caused buy the lift installer not putting shims where the knuckle for the two drive lines meet to level the overall shaft???
Thank you again for any help and look forward to sharing and loving my PS as much as all of you. Ben
Congrats on the truck and welcome to the forums. The thread strokin posted has pretty much all you need. The AIS intake is excellent. I have both the AIS intake and a big ol 6637 filter. The 6637 is awesome if you like listening to the turbo, the notes are sung loud and clear. I would go Gauges, filter, exhaust, and DP tuner chip. You are spot on with the driveline shudder. If it were me, I'd look for some traction bars, or at a spring 6" lift for the rear, that is a lot of block and I am sure you are getting some axle wrap on it.
The AIS is similar to the stock intake, as it looks somewhat the same, because it is a box design pulling through the same location, the snorkle. The 6637 (kwik filter as some call it) is just an open element huge filter that you stick on the intake pipe that leads to the turbo, it takes up 80% of the space that the airbox WOULD be. Dont need to worry about hot underhood air getting in the filter.
Thanks strokin, so its good just sitting on the top of the box ive seen pics where guys leave the lower part of the stock box and set the new filter in it, what of the sensor?
My truck seems to run better on chevron diesel am i crazy? or just get a bad tank of citgo?
Man that does look nice. You may want to regear to 4.30s, and even with this newfound power youre about to have in a month, that extra gearing will make the truck as snappy as it was with stock tires.
i'm about to swap over to power slot cryo rotors with hawk hps pads as most have with their trucks due to rotor warpage. also along with the DP tuner BTS(Brianstruckstop.com) makes a valve body that will work with the DP Tuner. Others know more about this than me but everyone has it.
Welcome to FTE Ben. That is one nice looking rig you got there. First thing I would do is get a set of track bars to stop that shudder. Shop around for your intake get an idea of what you want, also take a look at our sponsors websites, good deals to members. Exhaust, again shop around lots of good companies out there with kick a$$ products, ask around on here and save some $$$$$. Gauges, pyrometer for EGT, Trans Temp if auto, and boost gauge these are the BIG 3, add more but these should be the minimum. Bottom line is to ask the guys on this site and shop around. Again Welcome to FTE
