my turn-number decoding please??
I have a 66 F100 swb.
Vin # F10AR760931
block #C6AE-6015-D (I think it's a "D"- it's dark out there and the motor is a little dirty and I've got old eyes...
)Tag on pass side of the tranny reads RAN R1
K024890
I have to put a clutch in the beastie on sat and I'd really like to know wether to order the 11 inch (for the 300) or if I need the 10" for the 240.
I'm thinking the vin # says it should be a 240, but I've got a 3 groove pully and from what I've read here that could indicate a 300.
HELP!!!!!!
Thanks,
Judi

A = 240 I-6
R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant
760931 = 1966
The RAN series of Ford 3 speed transmissions were introduced in 1967. So your transmission was prolly swapped out. I could not find RAN-R1 in the truck parts book, so it may be from a Galaxie. The transmissions are the same internally for the 3.03 all syncro transmission car vs truck.
The company that is coming to the hobby shop to do the flywheel resurfacing also has both the 10 & the 11" clutches and he's bringing them both. I'll have it out by the time he gets there so we'll just match it up.
Am I a lucky lady, or what
Thanks again,

P.S. any imput on that block #??
C = Decade = 1960's
6 = Year
A = Ford
E = Engineering/Casting number
Both 10" and 11" clutches are listed for a 240.

When you posted "hobby shop" that usually means military. If you wear the uniform of this country, I want to say thank you to you, and hope to see ya around.

Thank you for the welcome. I agree I am VERY lucky to have found this group. You folks have saved my bacon many times over the last 3 years with my truck.
I love browsing thru the threads. I am firmly convinced, there is nothing anyone could want to do to their slick that somebody here hasn't already done or at least tried to do.......

To keep the record straight, I'm a retired former spouse. We did our 20 and then got divorced. (LOL, he does call at least once a year to propose again though. Told him -maybe, when I get old and tired of traveling..
)I did get the clutch in today. LOL, I think maybe I am getting older (or severly out of shape, LOL) It took me all day and I borrowed muscle from the guys that run the shop for the really heavy stuff. I'm so used to working out under the "tree" it was really strange to have access to a lift. It was kinda fun to raise 6's up and lower her back down.
For those of you in the Phoenix area or in the Denver area, if you don't already know about "The Clutch Doctor", They are great!! The will come to you and have clutch kits on the truck and match them for you and will resurface the flywheel onsite. It only cost me $196.00 today. I thought that was pretty darn reasonable considering the service I got.
Well, consider my chair occupied
