Hi Everyone
I have noticed that most of the Theads are questions and answers about rodding these old trucks I was curious what the ratio would between keeping them stock or rodding them??????
The dark side is strong... we keep pulling people in... we have cookies!
I don't know or can even hazard a guess about the ratio, but there is likely to be more questions generated by making modifications than when just putting it back together like Henry first did. There are no shop manuals for a hotrod to tell you where the parts go.
WOW! you sure have great looking truck!! Those Mercurys sure are sweet!
If my truck were even half as nice as yours I probably would have gone the stock route. My truck was pretty hammered when I got it and probably wouldn't of even made a decent parts truck for someone trying to do a restoration, thats why I decided to go the hot rod direction.
I like these old trucks most anyway they are served up, from factory original all the way to outrageous fullblown darkside customs!
You have a very nice truck there. I'd drive that one just the way it is, maybe getting it prettier as i go.
I think most here would agree that if the truck found is in reasonable stock shape, it should be restored. It just seems sacreligeous to cut up a nice stocker. But, when it is hammered beyond reasonable redemption, the dark side is too strong.
AX is probably correct on the why of so many rodder questions.
i agree with the others, my truck will be rodded because of condition and it has already been that way once. budget and availability are factors to. but ch&*y is not an option.
There are still a few of us hangin around with mainly stock trucks. For most drivetrain questions there is a Flathead forum that is small but smart. I got a 49 1/2 ton currently working on I'm starting to hear that Flathead show life, to me it's worth it but hey all's well........ Unless you're planning to put a Chevy powerplant in, then *&%$ odff
mr1950M-68, not that my opinion counts for much but I would restore your gem and if you decide that you would like a hot rod I'd look around for a 1/2 ton that's not as nice as what you have and modify that but by all means hang onto that F-3 it likes great.
Glenn, if you are asking the ratio of stock versus rodded here on the forum, I am not sure. My truck is stock.
If you are aasking if you should go stock or rod, keep it stock, especially because it is in such great shape, becasue it is not a half ton, and because you got it from your Dad!
You say it seems like most of the questions here are about rodded trucks? That is becasue if you keep it stock, there is only one way to go and not as many decisions and problems. If you have been drawn to the "dark side" you have so many more decisions as to which way to go and potentially more problems.
wow thats a nice truck. id spray some paint on the running boards and call it good. i dont know wether you could get an exact ratio of rods to stocks but the rods are on the winning side for sure. as far as being more questions about rods that only makes sense as changing stuff usally involves trial and error till its perfect. so you ask the question and somebody who has already gone through the trail and error and they can tell you how to do it and how not to do it.
I think the men before me said it all.I have built hot rods from near death ,vehicles. Then again I keep stock whatever is too nice to cut-up--and your truck fit's that to a tee.Plus Dad wouldn't have liked it if it was pink with flames!!!!
I say Henry Ford built it... and i'm fixing it, i live life a little on the darkside however i can and do appreciate vintage in its stock form. I think if i had a truck that was all stock and unmolested i would restore it back to stock condition, because its hard to find them like that anymore. My truck went through a lot of hackers before i bought it so thats why i am choosing to go a different route and make some mild custom mods .
You've got "ONE SWEET TRUCK" I Live on the dark side about 80% of the time. But I have to agree with the rest. Go stock it's to nice to mess up. I think you would regret it in the long run. I'm building a 50f1 that someone really did a hack job on. I love the 50 body style but thats all I have. So I'm going to ROD it to the max under the body. But thats my .02 worth. BUT YOU HAVE GOT A GREAT START ON A GREAT STOCKER. enjoy it.........RUSTY
