Has any one put a locking diff in the front if so what is involved with this. Can it be done at home? I have been looking at the Summit web site and they offer this.
i would look into the Aussie Locker. its cheaper and strong. comes with a no questions warranty type thing. a lunch box locker is the easiest to install from what i hear but I myself have not done this
I can't get to the link, but a lunch box locker can be put in, if you know your way around your diff, and have the time. It is suposed to take about 2 hours to install, but I'd plan on 4 hours, b/c somthing would come up. I was going to put a aussie locker in myself, but I needed to regear soon, so I just waited and let a professional do it.
I looked into it, had instructions and everything, and I feel I could of installed it if I had too.
The lock right is a very common drop in locker, but they have tire size limits, and they click very loud when turning.
The aussie Locker is stronger, quieter, and cheaper.... hard to beat that.
if this thing is ever going to be driven in 4 wheel on slippery roads i wouldn't put a locker in the front,it would be VERY hard to drive around slippery curves.a limited slip or a selectable locker would be best.if this is a rock crawler or mudder/off road only, then a locker would be a-ok.
I installed the lock right in my front. It was easy, but changing the gears is a bit more difficult. I have driven on slippery roads and havent had a problum. Of course, I dont put it in four wheel at highway speeds. In fact, in winter (when I lived in Canada) I generally kept the wheels locked all the time and switched in and out of 4 wheel as needed.

it didn't push in corners when turning?i had a limited slip in the front on mine and on real slippery/icy corners it would push the frontend and would have to give it some gas to get the front to pull around the corner and not try to go straight.
