alright for alot out there that has done this probably simple. I am trying to replace the ignition switch in my 89 f-250 and after taking the old one off and going to install the new I cant figure out for the life in me where the retainer spring that was loose in the box goes old was missing. FYI the reason Im replacing the switch is because when you turn to start the key dosent automatically return to run.
Are you referring to the "Snap Spring"? As I recall it goes in the very bottom, below the switch, bye the way what returns the switch to Run is the linkage from the "Actual Start Switch: under the steering column,
Within the column and what the key switch connects to provides the Shifter interlock (must be in N or P). That linkage also engages a rod that goes to the Start Switch, it is that piece that broke on mine causing it to NOT start and not return to RUN. It was easier to swap the the entire column rather than piece meal it back together, fortunatley I had an extra one from my 90 Bronc and swapped the hole thing out, with 2 prople you can do it in an hour or so.
Hope this helps
