I Have An 86 F150 4x4 5.0,the Trans Is Not Shifting Properly,it Takes Awhile To Shift From First To Second And Wont Shift Into Third Till It Is Around 5o Mph,needs To Build Up Pressure Like It Has A Shift Kit Or Something.it Will Shift Back And Forth Between Second And Third Till I Get A No Load Speed.this All Started After I Put My Foot To The Floor And Let Her Have It,is The Modulater Valve Stuck Or Is It Bigger
I would try replacing the modulator to start with because it is a cheap & easy fix. If it is screw in style I will give you a brand new one (for the price of shipping) that I was sent by mistake when I was rebuilding my C4.
Try the modulator first but if that does not change the occurances, its rebuild time. As for shifting late you might have low fluid level, bad seals, glogged filter. The fluxuating shifts back n forth I would have to say maybe the shift valve is not working properly. The seals might be going in the rear clutch drum n can only hold up to a certain amount of pressure and then release then engage etc etc.
Ok so I started it today in neutral and let it warm up for about 8 minutes,I left for work and it was shifting normal again,I will try what you have said in the reply's once it gets warmer, been really cold!!-22 celcious.thax for the input, the truck only has153,000 kilometers on it so it should need a rebuild I hope.
