I bought my wife a 2003 V6 Escape new in June or July 2003.

Vehicle has close to 60,000 miles and all I've ever done to it is front brakes and rotors twice, several sets of tires, engine oil changes and trans fluid changes.

About the brakes and tires. Wife is a little hard on the brakes or they don't last as long as I expected. Tires seem to bounce off the curb more when she drives so I replace single tires more often then a complete set.

I'm pleased with the vehicle concsidering it's only really needed routine maintenance.

Hey Pkupman82,

I just bought an '08 XLT Escape, 4WD...only about 1000kms on it, mainly highway. I absolutely love it. We didn't intend on buying a 4WD and originally wanted the FWD XLT. Unfortunately the dealership didn't have the FWD we wanted in-stock, although they did have the exact specs we wanted in the 4WD. After some deliberation over pricing, benefits and dis/advantages, we decided to go with the 4WD...and I don't regret it.

I'm not sure how well you know central Ontario, but we are well-known for our snowbelt and I'm sure the 4WD will come in handy during the winter months...although it should not become a false-sense of security. The gas mileage seems very comparable to the FWD and I highly dougt there's much efficiency difference in the two. The difference in cost, which is pretty well negligable on $30,000, will be worth it.

FWD or 4WD, the Escape seems to be a great deal. I love the interior, the handling (it doesn't handle much like an SUV or a minivan) is great and there's more than enough power on a 3.0L for daily driving...although something a little larger, like a 4.0L would be nice (the 3.0L should be the base model). The finish is very nice and the gas mileage is manageable.

Anyway, just my two cents.
