Hi: I have a 2000 F150 with a 4.6 motor. We got a lot of snow here last night and I was bucking drifts this morning. My check engine light came on, so I had it check out at the local autoparts store. They told me it had a code for a #2 cylinder misfire. I guess that means I have to replace the sparkplug in the #2 cylinder. I just had new ones installed last summer. Can anyone tell me the correct way on how to replace it. I'm kinda a backyard mech, so I think I can handle it. Thanks, PS what is the firing order for the 4.6.
Your firing order should be stamped on the intake manifold.
I would suspect the COP (coil over plug) rather then the sparkplugs since those are fairly new. Replacing it should be pretty easy especially if you have the new one before you start.
You can replace the boot and see if that solves it (it's cheap) and if that doesn't work replace the coil over the plug, it's not uncommon for them to go bad.
Your truck has a coil over each one of the eight sparkplugs.
Interesting,
My dad's 01 had a #3 cylinder missfire while on a trip to Nashville. Is the firing order and cylinder number stamped on a 5.4 as it is on a 4.6? Sorry to hijack the post but it is close to the same problem we encountered.
