I am currently looking at buying a 2003 Ford F350 with the Triton V10 6 speed manual. It has 55,000 KM on it and is going for $16,500. I wanted to ask you guys your opinion on this model year of the V10. I have heard that the 02 V10 had problems with the sparkplugs shooting out of the heads, or something along those lines. Is the 03 safe to buy? Or should I look elsewhere.
All are "safe" but the 03 is a safer bet. Doesn't mean you want to neglect sparkplug maintenance, though. Ignore the 100K interval. 60-70 is better. Inspect for proper torque every 10K to be safe.
As I recall, the 2003s are a-ok....but at 55,000, I think I would have new plugs instaled as part of the deal, especially if it is at a Ford dealer....I would even offer to pay $3 a piece for the morotcraft plugs....
As I understand it...the 03's should be ok for the plug issue. I sure hope so as I recently bought an '03. Love the truck so far! Mine had just under 20,000 miles on it when I found it! I'm pretty impressed with the towing capabilities of the V 10. My last three trucks were diesels...this V 10 will hold it's own pretty well in comparison to the diesel. There are pluses with either engine, but with the price difference between the two engines. Unless you tow/haul heavy every day, it's dang hard to justify the diesel anymore. Good luck with your purchase, I don't think you'd be disappointed with the '03.
Thanks for the replys. Right now it is between that ford 350 or an 03 dodge 3500 cummins for $10,000 more. I really don't want to pay the extra ten grand for the diesel when i can get a similar ford for 10,000 less. I am going to check out both vehicles this weekend. thanks for your help.

The only way I would pay $10,000 more for a Cummins is if it was made of GOLD or SILVER. That is crazy IMO. The Ford is a way better truck overall. With the recent stuff at that car company Dodge maybe owned by the Chinese or French any day now.
