Hey All,
I got a 78 Ford Bronco and I noticed last time I was driving it that when I had the heater on it didnt come out as hot as it should, more or less just kind of warm. I am use to having it blow hot air to the point where you have to roll down windows. My temperature guage runs at about 190 when its warmed up and around 200 when I am on the freeway. Any ideas why the heat doesnt blow super hot anymore?
Maybe..... (1) your heater core is partially stopped up or has some sort of blockage inside, or (2) the temperature control cable is not moving the plenum door all the way to the hot side. You might check under the dash to determine whether #2 is the case, and go from there. Oh.... one more thing..... does your truck have a heater control valve inline in one of the heater hoses? Perhaps this is malfunctioning, and not allowing coolant to circulate up to and through the core as it should.....
Hey,
Thanks for the help, I am thinking I might have a partial clog in it somehow. The lever and cable are set up perfectly to where they are opening and closing all the way. As for the hoses, they are straight in line with no cut-offs. I took it out a long time ago because I didnt need it.
Have any ideas as to how to get the clog out, or am I looking at getting a new heater core? I am practiaclly a pro at changing them out since I have done it twice on my 78 and 3 times on my 79 I used to have. I just hate tearing everything out to do it. Any suggestions would be great, thanks again for the input.

There are 2 tubes connected to the heater core. One flows in, the other out. Open the hood and check both after you drive a little ways(normal operating temp). Both hoses should be hot. If one isn't(the one coming out) you have a blockage in the heater core. Just replace the heater core. It's probably less than $20. Mine was $17 for a 1988.
If both hoses are hot, check the cable as specified in the post above. Normally behind the glovebox.
One other thing you might try before you reverse flush or replace the core. Especially if it came on suddenly. Be sure the coolant level is full. It may still run correct engine temperature, but not enough to produce good heat from heater.
