Hi folks, this is my first post/thread. Im not very knowlegeable about the mechanics of a vehicle...anyway heres my question. I have a '03 Excursion, 6.0
I was in the process of downloading Bullydog to the OBD port. Well, in the process, I lost power from my batteries...probs cause I had left doors/hood open. After getting new batteries, the truck runs, however, on my instrument cluster...various lights stay on (seatbelt, engine light, door ajar, check gauges). None of the gauges work...none. My radio doesnt work and my interior lights dont work. Bullydog is pretty much unable to help. So I took it to the local dealership to have it reflashed. They say they are unable to reflash and that I need a new instrument cluster...and that should fix it. I dont understand. Does the instrument cluster control the various electronics in my truck? I figure it would have something to do with the computer. Fuse box is okay. This will be covered under my extended warranty, though I do have to pay a deductible since Im at 65000 miles. Thanks in advance for any replies.
I had something similar with my other 2000 dodge ram when I tried using Hypertech. I will not ever order anything of that sort again. But if they can not fix the cluster you are gona have to buy a new one. What hypertech did to my truck was shut all my gauges off but all I had to do was have dodge turn the cluster back on, I got lucky. If Ford can not turn the cluster back on you will need to buy a new instrument cluster for your dash components.
Does the instrument cluster control the various electronics in my truck?
Yes it has a microprocessor that communicates with the engine computer, and various other systems in the truck.
You would think if you broke it by messing with the software, that it could be fixed using software. I do not know enough about it to tell you for sure. Try another dealer and see what they say.
Thanks for the replies folks. Currently I am waiting on a new cluster as they say they are backordered. This will be covered under my extended warranty plan so Im not worrying too much about it. I just want it fixed now. I want my windows and radio to work now...lol. Other than not knowing how fast Im going...the Bullydog actually works pretty good. I'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks again for the replies.
