ok, heres the deal. my 88 diesel has never had a muffler on the exhaust system since it was 3 days old.
this morning, i was talking with the 84 year old retired truck driver that lives 2 houses over from me, and he said the truck sounds sweet. he can hear me when i take off after the railroad crossing at night, and hear me all the way home. (that is just about 2 miles) and from the traffic light during the day, which is about 1/2 mile. but his wife, and most of the other older women on the street are always complaining that it is too loud.
i want to quiet it down a little bit. i have a flow master 50 series on the 79, with about 4 inches of 3 inch pipe, then a turndown tip. no complaints on that truck.
i want to take the diesel from obnoxious loud to a nice rumble from the stacks.
the muffler is going to be mounted about 2 foot from the turbo, before the splitter to the stacks..
heres the question. should i use a 40 series, or a 50 series?

If the Flows you have in mind are made for gasoline engine applications, they may not be good for a turbo diesel as they will choke the turbo. I know on the gas engines with turbos, we use a straight thru muffler as opposed to the chambered muffler such as the Flowmaster. jd
